English studies section

Thanks to the BWN’s English section, you can learn about the culture of English-speaking countries and explore the secrets of the English language. The section’s resources also enable you to learn Scottish Gaelic, Welsh, and Irish.

The English collection consists of over 72,000 books, journals, CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays. The collection includes, among others, the book collection of the former British Studies Centre at the University of Warsaw, as well as a unique collection of old prints. The oldest of these dates back to 1651, and most are the only or one of the few copies in Poland.

The English collection originates from the book collection of the English Language Seminar, which existed in the 1930s. This collection was later taken over by the Library of the Institute of English Studies at the University of Warsaw, which operated between 1950 and 2022, and then became part of the Library of the Faculty of Modern Languages at the University of Warsaw.
