The Library of the Faculty of Modern Languages at the University of Warsaw (BWN UW) has been operating since October 3, 2022. It was created by merging the libraries that operated within the individual units of the Faculty of Modern Languages.
What we collect
We collect and provide access to books, periodicals, and other materials in the fields of English, Germanic, Romance, Iberian, Italian, and Finno-Ugric philologies.
We offer primarily publications in the languages taught at the Faculty of Modern Languages.

Polish-language materials also constitute a significant part of the collections. Furthermore, we possess smaller collections of publications in languages such as Scottish Gaelic, Irish and Welsh, Yiddish, Occitan, Basque, Catalan, and Nahuatl, Swedish, the Sami languages, Udmurt, and others.
We collect publications on the above languages, as well as the history and culture of the countries and regions where these languages are spoken.
Our collections include publications in the fields of literary studies, linguistics, translation studies, and foreign language teaching, among others.

Books make up the largest part of our collections. The BWN book collection includes primarily academic and popular science literature, fiction and non-fiction (in the original and in translation), comics, language learning textbooks, dictionaries, lexicons and encyclopaedias.
How we collect
We collect materials through:
- purchases – we regularly purchase books both in Poland and by ordering them from abroad;
- subscriptions – through the University of Warsaw Library we subscribe to magazines in print and online;
- donations – we regularly receive donations from private individuals and organisations.
