German studies section

The collections of the German section of the BWN consist of books and periodicals (as well as CDs) primarily related to Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Austria. Thanks to the extensive book collection, it is possible to explore German and Dutch, but also Yiddish and Afrikaans. Particularly noteworthy is the complete set of Studia Niemcoznawcze (German Studies), the oldest German studies journal in Poland.

The section continues the work of the Library of the Institute of German Studies at the University of Warsaw, which operated between 1960 and 2022. The basis of the German collection was, among other sources, the book collection of the Higher School of Foreign Languages (Wyższa Szkoła Języków Obcych). Later, the collection was expanded to include books that Dr Florian Witczuk brought back from his travels in the Western and Northern Territories.
