Access on site

On site, you can – without having to wait – use the collections stored in the room of the Circulation Desk and Reading Room. If you have an active library account, you can also order items from the closed stacks to be delivered to the Reading Room (order waiting time:up to approximately 1 hour).

Books and periodicals may be photographed or scanned if necessary (except for rare items and publications in poor condition).

After use, materials from the Reading Room should be placed on the library cart, and those requested from the closed stacks should be returned to the staff on duty at the Circulation Desk.

  • books that are marked as Czytelnia BWN / Czyt. BWN / CBWN (BWN Reading Room) in the online catalogue (they are mainly on the shelves in the section in front of the neon sign)
  • books which are listed as Loanable in the online catalogue (mainly shelves behind the neon sign)
  • new books (behind the Circulation Desk)
  • books with autographs (at the Circulation Desk)
  • selected collections from the closed stacks (display shelves in the windows)
  • some periodicals, especially the latest issues of subscribed journals
  • board games

  • books that are not marked as wolny dostęp (open stacks) or Czytelnia BWN / Czyt. BWN / CBWN (BWN Reading Room) in the online catalogue
  • most of the periodicals
  • CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays

The collections from our closed stacks must be ordered online through the UW Libraries Catalogue. At our Circulation Desk, you can only order items that have not been catalogued electronically: books and periodicals from the card catalogue, and some discs (more information).

We process orders hourly, usually between 10 am and 5 pm on weekdays. Orders are typically processed within 15–30 minutes. Information about collection availability appears in your library account and is sent to the email address associated with it. Ordered materials will remain at our Circulation Desk for 5 business days (before being returned to our closed stacks).

In addition, you can view diploma theses defended in our Faculty’s units on site. These must be ordered in advance at the Circulation Desk by submitting a completed form.
