Before visiting the BWN Reading Room, please read the Regulations for the Use of our Library, which can be found here, and on the pillar immediately after entering the Library.
We gather some of our collections in the Reading Room. These are divided into those that can be:
- viewed only on site – these include books marked as Czytelnia BWN, Czyt. BWN or CBWN (BWN Reading Room), as well as periodicals;
- borrowed if you have an active library account – these include books marked as wolny dostęp (open stacks) and (usually) books on display shelves behind the Circulation Desk and in the windows.
In the Reading Room you can also access the collections we store in the closed stacks. These include:
- books with the Not loanable status in the online catalogue;
- periodicals;
- CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays from the English studies and Germanic studies sections (more information);
- diploma theses.
Books and periodicals can be ordered online through the University of Warsaw Libraries Catalogue, while CDs can be ordered online or at the BWN Circulation Desk. Ordered materials are available for collection after approximately 1 hour and will remain at the Circulation Desk for 5 working days before being returned to the stacks.
Books and periodicals may be photographed or scanned if necessary (except for rare items and publications in poor condition). After use, materials from the Reading Room should be placed on the library cart, and those requested from the stacks should be returned to the staff on duty at the Circulation Desk.
In addition, the Reading Room offers access to theses in electronic format. Theses may not be reproduced in any way. Detailed information can be found here.
